Tirupur is the 7th Big Industrial City of India.
The Knitted Garment Export is 45% of total India"s Textile Export. Tirupur exports 80% of India's knitted garments Export.
It is 4% of India's Total Export. Tirupur's annual export of the year is 20011-2012 is Rs. 12,000 Crores.
Domestic sale is Rs. 5,500 Crores.
Tirupur municipality has been upgraded as Corporation From 29-12-2008. now it has 52 wards. It will be increased to 60 wards
from the year 2011. Tirupur is tha only city which has been upgraded as Corporation, though it was not a Capital of the Diatrict. Then, Tirupur becomes the Dist. capital from 22-02-2009 onwards.
